Hi, I’m Brent Strange! I own and operate Green Hollow Tree Care, a small, family business in Craig County, VA (just outside of Blacksburg). Thanks for stopping by. Below, you’ll learn a little about our work. Reach out anytime with questions or to request an estimate. We look forward to serving you.
What makes our approach to tree care unique?
We’re a small, family owned and operated business
I personally see every project through from beginning to end. That means the same person who receives your call is the same person who’ll handle the work. You get personal care and fewer surprises. We keep our team small (and skillful). My most frequent crew member is my younger daughter, who’s already an experienced climber. My wife, Tonia, is our Office Manager. Our family is only a phone call away when you need us.
We help people understand their trees
Often, property owners reach out about a tree whose location, shape, or size seems dangerous. When I come out, I’ll listen attentively to your concerns and also observe the tree. If I find that your tree presents a serious risk to you or your property, I’ll share the exact reasons why it needs to come down. If it’s safe for it to stay, I’ll help you understand what it’s “asking for” in order to remain healthy. I’m there to interpret. Much like Dr Seuss’s Lorax, I often say that I “speak for the trees”.
Safety is our first priority
You might think that climbing is more dangerous. But safety is all about working smart and taking proper precautions. I have extensive safety training and my focus is keeping everyone safe— myself, you, & your property.
I’m a climber—I get up close and personal with trees
Not all arborists climb. You may see photos of larger operations with bucket trucks — while there’s certainly a place for those, they’re no substitute for climbing. When we’re in the tree (not just beside it) we’re able to study how the wind moves the branches. We can see which limbs it wants to drop to even itself out. Our goal is to make only those cuts that are the very best for the tree. Nothing unnecessary. We’re trying to create balance, and balance leads to health, safety, and longevity. This kind of work is both an art and a science. We don’t believe in the one-size-fits-all approach to tree care. We treat each tree like it’s one of a kind.
Last, being a climber also means I can get to trees that bucket trucks can’t— the ones that are farther back in a property, close to a structure, or densely clustered. Climbers are a lot gentler on your lawn too…
We’re the only cat rescuers in Southwest Virginia!
What goes up doesn’t always come back down…at least not without a little help. Our cat rescue count is about 30. So, if your favorite feline is stuck in a tree, give me a call.
